PREDICTION : 1 (HOME TEAM TO WIN)
Real Sociedad are in decent La Liga (LL) form extending on from last season, winning six of their last nine. They’ve demonstrated good variety within those nine games, scoring three times in the final 15 minutes, leading at half-time three times and netting at least two goals on four of those occasions. |
‘La Real’ have seen four of their five LL contests so far end under 2.5 goals, producing an average of 2.2 goals. They have become harder to beat at home over time, losing just four of their previous 17 LL home encounters, one of those being to midweek opponents Alavés back in December. |
Alavés haven’t had the start to the LL campaign that they’d have liked (W1, D2, L2), with all five games being tight affairs decided by fine margins and under 2.5 goals. However, six of their last nine LL wins have produced over 2.5 goals, suggesting they may need to be more expansive. |
Winning just three of their previous 15 LL away matches doesn’t bare well ahead of this midweek encounter. Alavés haven’t kept an away clean sheet since December but they’re good for a goal, as they’ve scored in 21 of their last 31 LL away clashes (67.74%). |
Players to watch: Willian José (SOC) scored twice in the recent win over Espanyol, only his fourth brace from 40 league goals for the club. |
Alavés striker Joselu has scored two of their four LL goals so far; with the team undefeated in each. |
Stat attack: Three of the last four H2H meetings saw Sociedad come out on top, but both meetings last season saw a 1-0 away win. |
Sociedad have only been a winning home LL favourite on eight of the last 20 occasions (40%). |
Three of the four LL goals Alavés have conceded this season arrived in the first half. |
